Originating from village life Northern Ireland, singer-songwriter Rue is set to release her new single ‘Call On Me’ at the beginning of August, before her first headline show at the end of the month. Following on from her 2021 single ‘Into The Woods’, Rue is back with soulful, clean vocals exhibiting her stunning voice across a catchy track which establishes her sound as indie/ alt-pop.

Previously crowned Belfast’s singer-songwriter of the year, it’s hard not to get excited about what’s to come from Rue as she goes from strength to strength, starting from her more folk-pop single from last year to her amazing new single and upcoming shows. Perfect for fans of HAIM, Foxes, or Florence and the Machine, Rue is set for success as she paves a path for herself as one to watch out for.

Rue’s grandfather, parents and brother are also musicians, and speaking on how her earliest experiences with her creatively inclined family have affected her, Rue says: “It was very normal for all of us to be together in a room, playing instruments and singing together. My love for music comes from my family.” This emotive personal history is reflected in Rue’s music itself, her songs offer an insight into a life framed by these family experiences, using songs as a way to feel closer to each other.

Luckily for anyone in Dublin in the next month, Rue is set to play her Headline show at The Sound House on Sunday 28th August.

In a clean-cut, successful attempt at a sound evolution, indie rock band SINS release highly awaited EP ‘Algorithms’, a four-track collection of fresh, smooth guitar, combined with lyrics with that recognisable britpop feel… see track 2 ‘I Think I’m In Love (with a tory)’, that fans of old school indie music like Pulp and Blur will love.

Having been featured already on indie staple Radio X as well as BBC 6 Music, it’s clear to see SINS have a well earned place on the stage with the greats of the genre. Beginning with a bang back in 2019, SINS played sold out show one after the other at venues in the south, as well as playing the crucial warm up support slots for Circa Waves, Jaws, and The Family Rain.

Coming up with the concept for the new EP, ‘Algorithms’ stemmed from the idea of the ever-growing digital world we live in, from the algorithms themselves that affect which content we consume and which we don’t see, and which poses an issues for many artists and content creators no matter the size of the fanbase.

Lead guitarist Aaron Evans speaks on this concept:

“Algorithms are playing havoc with society, constantly censoring and determining what content we see, the news we read, what we buy, who we relate to, the politicians we vote for, instead of looking outwards to others and alternative perspectives, these algorithms are only allowing us to look inwards to ourselves - just like looking into a mirror”.

Prior to this release, SINS have veered towards a punk rock attitude within their music, remaining true to their roots while including thrilling dashes of guitar and experimenting with different riffs. However, ‘Algorithms’ appears closer to the musical inspirations and offers an impressive display of talent from people who clearly know exactly what they’re doing. Surely fans will be excited to hear these new songs in the return of the underground indie rock gig they all know and love. ‘Algorithms’ delivers on this hope in spectacular fashion and brings a fresh new flavour to a well loved genre.

Speaking on the track, Matt explains; “This song means so much to me - it really finally talks

about so many different things that have happened in my life recently. Me and Birdy had an

amazing time writing this song and I think it really shows. It’s a reflection on my recent life and

was probably the most challenging to write and to produce - simply down to how much we put into the song.”

Matt's forward-thinking and Birdy's ethereal vocals naturally tie effortlessly together, juxtaposing the normal idea of electronic music for a climax that is packed with emotions. This track is a spiritual experience.
