Burgeoning new singer-songwriter Zoey Lily began her artistic journey during childhood, where she was brought up by a live music agent father and former fashion designer mother. Spending her time between the sprawling city of London and the beautiful serenity of southern France, it’s clear to see how the exhilarating creative environment has allowed for her natural talents to flourish, resulting in her unique and intoxicating musical style.

Described by Zoey herself… "I wrote ‘Friend’ about a friendship that slowly started falling apart when love got involved because I couldn’t return the kind of love my friend was looking for in me."

There is a sense of poignancy to ‘Friend’, and this theme is certainly reflected not just in the lyrics but in the tune and beats themselves, which are often sad enough to feel what Lily herself must have felt when writing them. There is an undeniable likability to the song, the content itself isn’t happy, but Lily’s syrup-sweet voice is enchanting - her lyrics offer a vulnerability leaving listeners feeling as if they know her and yet still want to know more.

Paired with her first music video, Zoey showcases her talents even further, taking the role of

producer, co-director and editor.

Speaking on the process, Zoey said…

"‘Friend’ is my first ever music video. I had the vision for the music video in my head ever since writing the song but it took me months to prep everything for the shoot. I wanted viewers to really get a sense of my personality and artistic direction so I wrote the treatment, co-directed and edited it myself taking inspiration from short films and a Parisian aesthetic which also correlates to the French lyrics in the song."

Her first album (Project Prologue, 2020), is a 12-track dreamscape of bedroom-pop, featuring Zoey’s stunning voice and catchy lyrics, with the most popular song on there having over 600,000 streams. It’s no wonder she has been championed by BBC London, performing as part of BBC Introducing’s ‘Summer by the River’ which is a showcase intended for the best of the emerging talent in London. This year, Zoey has an upcoming EP release intended for the autumn, featuring her latest single, ‘Friend’.

‘Friend’ is out and available to listen to now! Expect much more from Zoey Lily, including her EP later this year…

“Absolutely love them. Really, really good band” - The Chris Moyles Show - Radio X

With 4 tracks on the EP, the title track goes to 'Wandering Star'. Taking a slightly more softer side to their sound, this song opens with a delicate guitar before diving into a bold rhythm with a hook to ring in your head for days.

Talking about a toxic relationship in the lyrics, we witness the twists and turmoils that come with an unequal couple. Letting us look into a personal situation, Don't Tell Mum gives us a sense of vulnerability.
