‘Chimney Sweeper’ will be the fourth and final single from upcoming album ‘The Cabin Tapes’, which is due to be released on 9th September. The album title is an ode to the setting of it’s creation, as a large part of it was written in a hut in the forest, on a Bon Iver level of commitment to the music. However, ‘Chimney Sweeper’ was born years before the hut, when Benjamin created a rough demo using a sound fragment he’d come up with. Years passed, and eventually Kids of Adelaide turned it into the clean, electronic rock sound we have today.

The lyrics can be credited to an experience had by Severin, who explains:

"The first thing I saw when I looked out the window was the chimney sweeper. It struck me

that his job is to go from house to house – and thus immerse himself again and again for a

short time in the individual universes of people. These universes – consisting of feelings,

fears, experiences, small joys and hopes – are what makes us human. Every human being

has reasons for why he is the way he is. And if we understood that, our dealings with each

other would be completely different. It is almost impossible for us to always fully comprehend

the universes of other people – but we should try. Because empathy is always the answer.

Yes, I think this song is a plea for more empathy. Or maybe just an encouragement to look

out the window more often to not only observe but to discover all these "universes on two feet."

Beginning in the week of their album release, Kids of Adelaide embark on a set of European tour dates, and for any fans of Arctic Monkeys, The War on Drugs or Arcade Fire… grab your tickets!
